
Model Degree Colleges were to be established
with Central Government funding and required land, staff, and infrastructure provision under Human Resource Development (MHRD) in 2011-12.
Initially, eight districts in Odisha were selected for pilot projects, with Deogarh being one of
the fortunate beneficiaries. The project commenced with the allocation of 2 acres of forest
land at Rajamunda, designated by the then Collector and District Magistrate of Deogarh, Smt.
Poonam Guha. Building work began with funding from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha
Abhiyan (RUSA) under the guidance of Sj. Purna Chandra Pathy, the then Collector and
District Magistrate of Deogarh. Academic activities started in the 2016-17 session following
the appointment of the first principal, Dr. Kalilash Chandra Dash (transferred from BJB
Autonomous College), on 18.06.2016. Offline admissions for the 2016-17 session began in
July, with classes commencing on 25.08.2016. Every year students are getting admitted
through SAMS as per the guidelines of higher education department, Odisha. Till now, six
batches have been successfully graduated in various streams such as Arts, Science and
Commerce from this esteemed institute.
